Winchester City v Eastleigh Town
D Gowers on Sun 10 JanWinchester City v Eastleigh Town - Hampshire Senior Cup
New Signing
D Gowers on Thu 7 JanWe are pleased to confirm that we have signed and registered the signing of midfielder Nick Awford.
We have been pursuing this signing for some time, and we are delighted to have completed the matter today. Nick was until recently at Portsmouth, and enjoyed loan spells at Gosport Borough and Bognor before joining Farnborough in the close season.
Our recent dip in form has highlighted the need for some additions to our squad. Nick Awford will add some real quality, and will hopefully help us push on for the remainder of the season.
CITY HIT SEVEN
on Sun 9 NovIn very wet and wndy conditions at the Denplan on Saturday City turned on the style hitting Brockenhurst for seven goals to the single reply.
A hat trick each for Warren Bentley and Mike McEnery plus one for Zach Glasspool dod the damage.
CHRIS EVANS IN WINCHESTER
on Wed 5 NovRadio 2 DJ Chris Evans visited Weeke Primary School today. Is he also Winchester City FC's newest fan?
Fareham Town v City Off
on Tue 4 NovCity's game away to Fareham Town has been postponed due to waterlogged pitch.
Team Solent win on 4g pitch
on Tue 4 NovTeam Solent 6-2 WCFC
Hardly a fair reflection on the game, which amazingly City might have won had they not spurned lots of good chances!
A really entertaining game, played (for no good reason) on the 4G pitch, rather than the grass. City certainly played some excellent football in the first half, but capitulated in the second period - with a mixture of missed chances and poor defending.
That said yet another good learning curve for our very young team!
City out of The Vase
on Sun 2 NovCity are out of the Vase in the first round following a 3-0 home defeat to a very strong Horndean side.
First defeat for Reserves
on Mon 27 OctWinchester City Reserves suffer their first defeat of the season going down to a 3-1 home defeat to AFC Portchester Reserves.
City bounce back
on Sun 26 OctCity got back to winning ways with a comfortable 4-0 win away to Fawley in the Wessex League Cup. Three goals for Geoff Dunn and one for Zac Glasspool secured the win for City who will play United Services Porsmouth in the next round.
Paul Masters returns to City as new manager
on Sat 25 OctThe players and Committee of WCFC met with Paul Masters, who is the new Manager of the Club on Friday evening.
Paul was with us last season, as Assistant Manager, so he knows most of the playing staff very well, and is aware of the aspirations we all share.
Paul will be joined by Glenn Burnett and John McFarlane.
City outplayed!
on Thu 23 OctBy far the worst day and worts game of football played by Winchester City last night. Just a couple of shots on target was all that City offered the travelling fans as they were soundly beaten 3 - 0 by Brockenhurst.
Brockenhurst were well organised, stronger and by far the better team on the night.
Sad Day for Winchester City
on Thu 23 OctFollowing our 3-0 defeat at Brockenhurst last night, Tim Cole resigned as co Manager of WCFC. This morning, Danny Robinson has decided to do likewise.
The Club would like to place on record our thanks to Tim and Danny (and their coaching staff) for their tireless work and enthusiasm, and wish them well for the future.

Charlie Smeeton returns
on Mon 20 OctWinchester City FC are delighted to confirm that, subject to Sydenhams Wessex League acceptance, we have completed the signing of Charlie Smeeton from Newport IOW.
Charlie is well known to the City faithful, having been a favourite in a previous spell at the Denplan. He can play either as a wide player or as a striker.
Hopefully we can complete the formalities in time for Charlie to be in the squad for our game at Brockenhurst on Wednesday.
Welcome back Charlie!
U16 Win
on Mon 20 OctWinchester City U16 2 - 1 Eastleigh U16
City dominated most of the first half and were unlucky to go in to the break at 0-0, with a handfull of chances missed. The second half started in the same vain but a very well taken solo effort by Jon Darling saw city gain the upper hand. A second goal by James Doughty after good link up play with Jake Freeland Searle doubled the score. The last 20mins saw Eastleigh push forward and saw them pull one back. City were now on the defensive and after Jack Jerram was adjudged to have handled just outside of the box a superb fingertip save on to the crossbar by stand in goalkeeper Lukas Woods saw the momentum swing back to city who then pressed Eastleigh hard. With the final whistle city could look back on a very good performance and a job well done.
The game was played in sunny conditions with a crowd of 50

Leigh Mills to take a break from football
on Mon 13 Octaken from The Winchester City Messageboard
For purely personal and family reasons, Leigh Mills has decided to take a break from football. Leigh has recently taken on additional responsibilities at the School he works, and feels that he can not currently commit the time needed to sustain the high standards he has set himself.
Whilst we are all disappointed, we fully understand and accept his decision. Leigh has been an exemplary man to work with, and a true example to others. He is one of the nicest men you could meet, and we all hope that he will be back with us in the not too distant future.

City so close!
on Sun 12 OctWinchester City came very close to earning a draw in a very closely fought match at Concord Rangers in the FA Cup 3rd qualifying round yesterday on Canvey Island.
City almost got off to perfect start when Warren Bentley broke through in the opening minutes. Two goals for Warren Bentley in each half, one from the penalty spot was not quite enough against opposition three divisions higher. Concord Rangers finished 3 - 2 winners althoughCity gad chances in the last fifteen minutes which could have earned at least a replay.
It wasn't to be but the whole team, managers, supporters did Winchester City proud. The only other disappointment was the poor showing of Concord Rangers supporters. Only 202 watching and halfof those made the trip up from Hampshire.
TIM AND DANNY'S SMASH AND GRAB

Winchester City FC - The Early Years
on Mon 22 SepOur club badge proudly boasts that Winchester City FC was founded in 1884. But have you ever wondered what our club was like in its early days? Who were the people that founded the club? And what was their motivation in doing so? Who were the star players of the time? Who were the villains? In what competitions did the club compete? And what were their successes and failures?
You can find the answers to all of these questions, and many more, at a special evening event to be hosted at the WCFC clubhouse on Friday 26th September. City supporter Ian Denness will be presenting some of the findings of his research into the early years of association football in Winchester. This will look at a number of football clubs based in the city, but will principally be charting the ups and downs of WCFC. The story that unfolds is one that includes, among other things, player violence, police corruption, civic disturbances and some fabulous moustaches, all set amid a backdrop of financial shortages and public indifference!
The doors will be open on the night at 7:30, with the talk due to start at 8:00. The bar will be open and, although entrance is free, there will be the opportunity to make a voluntary £5 donation at the door, with all proceeds going towards WCFC. It should be an interesting and entertaining evening, so see you there!
